In my opinion, this is the best of all the Quatermass serials, partly because of Andre Morell's totally convincing performance. The Hammer 1967 remake was good, but lacked Andre Morell. For me Morell IS Quatermass. I have a vague memory of as a child coming down from bed and seeing the rattling cables which scared the shit out of me before my parents shooed me back to bed. Since then I've watched it several times and I never get tired of watching it. I still think it's one of the best things the BBC have ever done.

I've been looking for this series for a long, long time. I've always loved the remake (Known here in the U.S. as 5 Million Years to Earth), but never had the opportunity to see the original TV version. This is great. Two big thumbs up!

regarding the comment that the uploaded version is uncut while the dvd is edited: Episode One has the same runtime as the PAL dvd, implying they probably have the same content.

Excellent work by BBC talent. I suspect this series may have been an inspiration for Dr. Who. I don't usually watch old time TV (or new TV for that matter) but this is good drama, tightly written, well constructed. A full length movie might have been more polished, but this has energy.

The DVD release of this marvelous show is edited!! Not censored, but shortened. Small snippets here and there have been removed, where as here the whole thing seem intact. And the sound is perfect, unlike the DVD, with its hiss and crackle. How on earth did you manage to get hold of such a copy?
I do wish I could download it, and possiblt burn it on dvd-r but for some reason I don't get any filename, and can't even download it

Main cast: Andre Morell (Professor Bernard Quatermass), Cec Linder (Dr. Matthew Roney), Anthony Bushell (Colonel James Breen), John Stratton (Captain Potter), Christine Finn (Barbara Judd) and Harold Goodwin (Corporal Gibson).

When Sci-fi was first of all Sci-fi story; rather than the non-sense stupid story like today.

This movie was produced by a genius, no doubt. I remained glued to it through the whole 6 episodes. It proves that you don't need a huge budget to create suspense. It's also a good drama.

If there were just one film worth watching on the Internet Archive, this is it. If at times the acting seems a bit hammy remember in those days they did the drama as a live broadcast. This is science fiction, drama and realism at its best, as fresh today as it was back in the 50s. The British character actors are superb in this excellent story and the picture quality is fantastic, I recommend you watch all the episodes.

Wonderful series, I know of no series, US, british or elsewhere, which could be compared to this. So many marvellous characters even in supporting roles. I love the elderly couple. What the previous reviewer said about the antimilitaristic tendencies and how necessary they are today is correct.

these early science fictions are really very good, there's influence from stage and radio shows still evident (some over-acting) but I enjoyed the whole series. Thanks for uploading these!
This series was remade into a full-length movie but the movie was not anywhere as good as this.
The other Quatermass series on IA is a little better, in my opinion, but this one is a better print so they really balance out.
The anti-military and anti-war tone of the film, has, sadly, been lost. It's just as important today as it ever was!
